THE GOD-BREATHED SCRIPTURE OF LIFE

Our origin was not simply coincidental but rather intentional, and it was personal because it was God Himself who fashioned us. Not by simply speaking us to existence, but like a potter with clay, He crafted us. He gave His breath so that we may live, proving to us that God is the source of our being. Thus, God’s Word will always have an impact on us because our souls will always long for the Word of God. We are created for Him, and our purpose can only be found in Him. This is what we’ve been discussing for the past few weeks, which now brings us to a close and a reminder of proper living as we await the return of our Good Lord and Savior, Jesus, which will usher us back to God’s very presence for us to live eternally for His glory.

When God breathed out the Scriptures, it gave life to those who read, believe, surrendered their lives to it. Christians find life worth living, acknowledging that they live by the very breath of God, His Word! 2 Timothy 3:16-17 says, “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”

“Breathed out” in Greek is theopneustos. It comes from two Greek words: theo meaning God, and pneustos, which means breathe. Literally, God-breathed. All Scripture is God-breathed. Just as God’s breath gave life to Man, our poor dead souls could only be revived by hearing the God-breathed Scripture of God.

Jesus Christ even said, quoting the Scripture, “Man does not live by bread alone but by every Word that comes out of the mouth of God.”

God’s Word gives life and makes us realize our true purpose in life. So, we must engage ourselves with the Scriptures regularly, seeking spiritual nourishment and guidance. Allow the Word of God to breathe life into our thoughts, actions, and decisions.

God created us good, and as He restored us in Christ, may we engage ourselves with the Spirit of God to equip us for every good work. What is that good work? The acts that bring glory to God alone!

Let me just encourage everyone to consider treating their Bibles like how they treat their phones. Whenever you wake up at the start of your day, pick up the Bible than your phone, and spend time being nourished by it. If you lack time to read, that needs to be adjusted.

Spend time regularly with the Word of God as this is God’s very breath which gives life to our souls.
