MANILA — Quezon City has began enforcing its “No Plate, No Travel” policy for tricycles on Monday, July 1, marking a crackdown on unregistered vehicles in the Philippine capital’s largest city.
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) announced that the operation aligns with Section 18 of Republic Act 4136, which mandates proper use of license plates.
Tricycles operating without plates will be considered illegal and “colorum” — a term for unauthorized public utility vehicles.
LTO Chief Vigor Mendoza said the agency implemented the measure after addressing a backlog of nearly 3,000 tricycle license plates in Quezon City last month.
“This serves as a pilot for our stricter Road Safety and Anti-Colorum Campaign, which we plan to implement nationwide for all vehicle types in the future,” Mendoza said.
The policy aims to improve road safety and regulate public transportation in the densely populated city.
Meanwhile, authorities will apprehend non-compliant tricycle operators starting July 1.
