Manila eyes Aug. 4 as ‘Carlos Yulo Day’ to honor Olympic hero

QUEZON CITY — The City of Manila is formally submitting a request to officially recognize August 4 as “Carlos Yulo Day,” a day dedicated to honoring the achievements of the Filipino gymnast who won two gold medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna announced that the city council is drafting a resolution to declare August 4, the date Yulo won his second gold medal, as a working holiday.

Yulo’s first gold medal came on August 3 during the floor exercise. His impressive performance in the Paris Olympics has garnered widespread admiration and national pride.

Carlos Yulo has brought immense honor to our country. This is a testament to his dedication, hard work, and talent,” said Lacuna.

We believe that declaring August 4 as ‘Carlos Yulo Day’ is a fitting tribute to his accomplishments and will inspire future generations of Filipino athletes,” the mayor added

The resolution, once approved, will make “Carlos Yulo Day” a working holiday in Manila, allowing residents to celebrate the gymnast’s achievements and acknowledge his contribution to Philippine sports.

Yulo and the other Philippine Olympians were recently welcomed back home with a vibrant homecoming parade that started from Aliw Theater and ended at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila.

The declaration of “Carlos Yulo Day” is expected to further solidify Yulo’s place in Philippine sports history and serve as a reminder of his exceptional athletic achievements. (AVS/PIA-NCR)
