YET THOSE WHO HOPE IN YAHWEH

Isaiah 40:28-31 “Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Everlasting God, Yahweh, the Creator
of the ends of the earth, Does not become weary or tired. His understanding is unsearchable. He gives
power to the weary, and to him who lacks vigor He increases might. 30 Though youths grow weary and
tired, and choice young men stumble badly, 31 Yet those who hope in Yahweh Will gain new power; They
will mount up with wings like eagles; They will run and not get tired; They will walk and not become
weary.”

Typhoons have been making headlines due to the disastrous effects they cause. Many have fled areas
that the typhoon will hit, and truly, that is the right thing to do. Faith in God doesn’t mean being
irrational or blindly believing in what we assume will happen. That is not faith at all, but ignorance of the
counsel of God. However, we must not dismiss the importance of faith. We need to understand that
faith is always grounded in something. And that something should be reliable enough for us to put our
lives into.

See, we often think we can do everything we set our minds to. That is the universal delusional mantra of
almost everyone: “What your mind can conceive, you can achieve.” The moral goal here is to uplift the
spirits of dreamers and encourage them to work toward their dreams. However, the slippery slope
caused by this ideology is that many have relied too much on themselves to the point that they no
longer recognize important aspects of reaching dreams, like education and hard work. But these blind
followers realize their ignorance once faced with uncontrollable forces outside of themselves, such as
natural calamities and human wickedness. This should serve as an indication to place our faith in
something beyond ourselves—not just anything, but someone who is powerful enough to trust in. This is
true faith, because it can only be true if the object is reliable enough. Therefore, other objects we place
our faith in are false.

Think about it: when we talk about faith, we expect a result from believing in it. But if the object cannot
guarantee any result due to its impotence, then we should not believe in it. We need to believe in
something that can guarantee results—not that we demand good things from it, but because we need
help. We need rescuing; we need saving. There is no one comparable to God Himself.

Isaiah himself declares this truth in Isaiah 40:28-31, and in other passages of the Scriptures. He controls
the weather. He gives life and takes it away. He knows the end from the beginning. He created
everything, and He is the Alpha and the Omega. He is mighty enough to save. Therefore, even in
calamities, problems, hardships, and confusion in life, there is no one greater to hold onto but God
alone.

However, let it be clear: typhoons will come and we can only pray that no one gets harm. If we trust in
His greatness and wisdom, we must be ready to be patient and wait for Him as an exercise of our faith.
Our hope in Him is not in vain, for He has already established what is to come as the fulfillment of His
covenant promise. He will never fail. We can put our faith in Him.
