PROMOTING LOCAL LIVELIHOODS IN SAGAY, CAMIGUIN THROUGH PORTASOL

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Camiguin, led by Provincial Science and Technology Director Joanne Katherine R. Banaag, conducted a monitoring activity on July 4, 2025, to assess the performance and impact of the Portable Solar Speed Drying Trays (PORTASOL) deployed in Sagay, Camiguin. This initiative aims to empower local micro-entrepreneurs by enhancing productivity through sustainable technology.

PORTASOL units were provided to three local enterprises:

The Holy Trinity Fisherfolks Association in Manuyog, engaged in dried squid production
Mr. Ricky Obsid of Poblacion, known for his traditional kiping delicacies
Mr. Roland Zaballero of Cuña, who processes cacao into tablea

All three beneficiaries have reported notable improvements in their production processes. The use of PORTASOL significantly reduced drying time, enabling them to scale up operations, meet growing demand, and increase income.

Through innovative and appropriate technologies like PORTASOL, coupled with ongoing technical support, DOST-Camiguin reaffirms its commitment to uplifting local livelihoods, enhancing product quality, and fostering a resilient and inclusive local economy.
