GOD’S FAITHFULNESS TO HIS REDEMPTIVE PLAN

Exodus 2:24-25

When we think of promises, we often recall politicians who exaggeratedly promised comfort that
seemed credible at the time but turned out to be unbelievable when faced with reality. We tend to
believe these promises because we value the integrity of the person making them. Unfortunately, as
humans, we are often too weak to fulfill our words.

Thankfully, God is not like us—He does not lie or change His mind. He is strong enough to ensure that
His words are always fulfilled. We can see this in how God responded to the Israelites’ cry for help. They
had been enslaved for four hundred years, and their situation seemed hopeless, but God was with them.

When Moses fled to Midian to hide and live there, he may have forgotten Israel, but God did not. When
the Israelites cried out to God, it wasn’t a demand to fulfill the covenant promise but rather a selfish
desire to escape their suffering. The Israelites might have forgotten the covenant, but God did not.

In Exodus 2:24, it says, “And God heard their groaning, and God remembered His covenant with
Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.”

In the original text, “to remember” means “to mention.” God was mentioning the covenant He made
with Abraham in this account. It wasn’t that God had forgotten, but rather that He was bringing
attention to the effects of His covenant. God did not save Israel because they were good; He saved them
because of the covenant He made with their forefathers. He desired to fulfill every part of it to show His
love, grace, power, and glory.

This is the same reason God shows favor to us—not because of who we are or what we have done, but
because of the new covenant He established and fulfilled in Jesus Christ. Because of God’s desire to be
faithful to His Word, we benefit from it.

Jesus Christ gave His life so that we might receive forgiveness and be redeemed to live with God.

This is how much God loves us. Yes, there are sufferings in this world, but the Lord has never forgotten
what He promised. Jesus Christ gave His life so that we may live with Him for all eternity, where there
will be no more enslavement or battles, but only a wonderful rest in the Lord.
