When the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called to him out of the bush, “Moses,
Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.”
Moses was considered a murderer and left his fellow Israelites forty years before God called him in
the desert of Midian. Why would God call Moses after all these years? Was his appearance
pleasing? Was his speech impressive? Nothing of those were given. The only reason, as with His
other people He called to serve was because God wanted to. No one can move God’s hand so that
He will choose us. He chooses out of His wisdom and grace.
Which makes us realize that when Moses was yet a baby, he was saved by God from being killed for
this specific purpose. Scripture tells us that Moses knew that he was an Israelite and that he knew
that God had a rescue plan set for Israel (Acts 7:20-25)
Moses did not sin when he killed the Egyptian. It was an act of justice. However, Moses sinned
when he thought he could do things in his own way and not according to God’s way. He was
arrogant and he needed to be humiliated.
What happened? Moses had become an unknown shepherd in an obscure place but fortunately
God hasn’t forgotten Moses. From Moses’ running away to rescuing Israel. From shepherding sheep
to shepherding the Lord’s people. God prepared Moses and called Him for service.
As we consider these things, we realize that God’s plan of redemption did not only began when we
called for help. It began even before we knew we need it. And he has prepared people to deliver his
wonderful gospel message to His people.
God saved you and therefore automatically has called you to serve. You are encouraged to study
and to share the good news of salvation to others and you can be assured that God is with you.
God is calling you to begin His work of redemption to those people who are still crying out for help.
Your call to service may not be as extraordinary or dramatic as how Moses was called, and yet the
joy of being given this privilege to serve Him will keep us going.
