DELIVERING AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE

Luke 2:17 And when they saw it, they made known the saying that had been told them concerning this child.

I helped some friends sell their perfume products, despite not being able to handle strong scents myself. They asked me why was I helping them, knowing that I wouldn’t get paid. I explained to them that I believe in the quality of their perfumes and that people should be aware of and use them.

Often, we endorse products, items, movies, TV shows despite not being paid to promote it. Why do we do that? Because we recognize their value and hope that people’s lives will find some comfort or happiness upon discovering them.

This is what occurred when the shepherds heard that the much-awaited Savior has come. They couldn’t help but declare to everyone what had been revealed to them by the angels.

The message the shepherds relayed was uncommon. The angel said that the Savior was wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger (Luke 2:12). This shows the wisdom of God. The people were idealistic, expecting their Messiah to arrive according to their standards–born in a palace, with prominent figures in the society announcing the birth, not shepherds. The people were perplexed, but the shepherds continued proclaiming what they witnessed.

When you received truly good news, you can’t help yourself but share it with others. I pray that when we encountered the Gospel of our Lord, we also share it with others, regardless of their perception of us. Whether they consider us worthy or not, let’s remember that we are called by the Lord and considered worthy because of Christ Jesus alone.

I appreciate how Mary handled it. While many wondered, Mary cherished the message in heart. I believe we should also treasure the truth of God’s Word in our hearts. Only then can we preach the good news in a way that glorifies God.
