SHEPHERDS ON A RUN

Luke 2:15 When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.”

As we find ourselves in the final month of the year, congratulations are in order! Some of us might be wondering if there will be any beautiful changes before the year concludes. Emerging from a pandemic, there may have been hopes for a magical transformation akin to unveiling a window drape to reveal a beautiful garden outside.

Unfortunately, numerous unfortunate events have unfolded, making it seem as though the world has not experience any life-changing situation at all. Wars have been declared, inflation is on the rise, hearts are braking, and a whole lot more. These situations will persist as long as we’re here. What’s the remedy? Not human intervention, but divine intervention.

The night the angels appeared to the shepherds was a typical night filled with worries and anticipations. Worries stemming from being ruled by a mad tyrant, and anticipation of redemption from their condition. Although, they didn’t know when the prophesied Messiah would be revealed, but they hope He will come. Thus, when the angels appeared to the shepherds to deliver the good news that the Messiah was born, the shepherds left their flocks and they wanted to see the fulfillment for themselves because of the hope that is associated with the Messiah

This is how we should see the gospel of Jesus Christ. He is more important than their flocks, than their livelihood, than anything ever in this world. Seeing Jesus in His Word is far more beautiful than any present we could ever have. Jesus Christ is the Good News who will trample the enemy at His feet, and paved the way for us to be reunited with God.

So, this Christmas month, may we never lose sight of God’s intervention in humanity in order to restore us to a genuine and true relationship with God.

We will continue to look at this account for the next articles. See you next week!
