A significant step toward strengthening the Philippine textile sector was marked with the launch of the Natural Textile Fiber Innovation Hub (NTFIH) Laguna Facility at Laguna University in Santa Cruz, Laguna.

The newly inaugurated facility aims to address the growing demand for natural textile fibers by converting raw agricultural materials directly from the soil into spinnable textile fibers. This innovation is expected to enhance value-adding processes for local resources while promoting sustainable and community-driven production.

Delivering the opening remarks, Dr. Julius L. Leaño, Jr., Director IV of the DOST–Philippine Textile Research Institute, highlighted the importance of the facility in empowering communities and strengthening the country’s textile value chain. He underscored how the NTFIH Laguna Facility can create opportunities for local producers while contributing to the growth of the Philippine textile industry.

The keynote message was delivered by Dr. Renato U. Solidum, Jr., Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology, who stressed the vital role of science, technology, and innovation in achieving national progress and inclusive development.
